The regiment was founded shortly after the Second Galactic War began, following the disastrous "Dark Thursday" on the colony of Veld. As Terminid outbreaks threatened to overrun the sector, a group of seventy-seven survivors from various shattered SEAF divisions volunteered for Helldiver training simultaneously.
Against all statistical probability, every single one survived the training course (a feat the Ministry of Truth attributed to "pure patriotic grit"). They were organized into the 77th, adopting the title "Harbingers" to signify that their arrival is the final warning for the enemies
