THANATOS

Thanatos, whose name literally means “death” in Greek, is a minor but significant figure in Greek mythology. He is the son of Nyx (Night) and, according to some sources, Erebus (Darkness), and the twin brother of Hypnos, the god of sleep, reflecting the close connection the Greeks saw between sleep and death . Unlike Hades, who ruled the Underworld, Thanatos did not govern the dead but acted as the collector of souls, ensuring that mortals passed to the afterlife when their allotted time had expired
