The Strigoi-Class Corvette is a forward scout vessel initially idealized in the years after the First Galactic War. Designed principally around an impressive sensor array and large torpedoes augmented with a light direct fire armament, it was envisioned that the Strigoi would act as both picket ship and an ambush predator against enemy fleets while also being able to conduct anti-piracy patrols. The class proved unnecessary as the SEAF transitioned to a peacetime footing, seeing only limited service across the Federation. It remained quietly popular with agents of the Ministry of Truth, however, who valued its ability to intercept dissident communications and locate their sources. The Strigoi was officially retired to mothballs in 2142, where it drifted in silence for over four decades.

Reactivated in 2184 after the Automaton invasion of the Severin Sector and the declaration of the Second Galactic War, the surviving Strigoi hulls were initially redeployed as battlegroup pickets. Their decades-old systems left the SEAF Navy considering full retirement and recycling, but the remaining few dozen ships were instead sent to Hellsing Heavy Industries for complete modernization under the Naval Strike Program, then assigned to the 597th Apocalypse Drop Regiment as a test bed for integrated naval support of Helldiver operations. The refit’s ECM capabilities have proven quite effective against the Automatons, screening Super Destroyers and other fleet elements during planetary operations.

In 2185, the Strigoi suffered heavy casualties during the Battle of Super Earth, where the Illuminate’s advanced sensors and psychic abilities proved anathema to the class. A subsequent refit hardened the Strigoi against Illuminate capabilities, and in 2186 the Freedom Alliance, in partnership with Castra Vindicta Staryards and Hellsing Heavy Industries, purchased the rights to the design and began producing them internally for the newly established Freedom Alliance Navy. The Strigoi currently operates in its design roles as a fleet scout and stealthy assassin.

True to its picket and scout role, the Strigoi carries a minimal armament built around flexibility rather than weight of fire. Four torpedo tubes can deliver a range of submunitions, most commonly the low-yield nuclear warheads in widespread use during the current war, while four "Steward" twin-railgun turrets fill a dual-purpose role against smaller vessels and strikecraft at range. Four 110mm "Dominion" autocannons in fixed nose mounts allow the Strigoi to be employed, in the words of one captain, as "the largest gunship ever designed." Used in concert, these systems let the Strigoi project itself as a credible threat against vessels well above its tonnage.
