The Trafalgar-Class Expeditionary Star Base was conceived by the 777th Relief Regiment in 2186, in the opening years of the Freedom Alliance Navy, and designed by Major Nya of the 193rd Illimpiri Support Company. It is neither battleship, nor carrier, nor transport, but a mobile forward base: a harbor carried to the front line. Where a fleet has no friendly port within reach, a Trafalgar takes its place, providing hangars and flight decks, repair capacity, command infrastructure, fleet logistics, and shelter for those it pulls out of the dark. Super Destroyers form the spearhead of any Freedom Alliance battlegroup; the Trafalgar is the backbone behind them.

Every Trafalgar is forged at the Garlond Ironworks Shipyard, the 777th's industrial heart in orbit above Angel's Venture. When the planet was cracked open and its core left burning beneath the wreckage, the Regiment did not abandon it. Raw metal and salvage are railgunned through the exposed core, tempered in the fury of the dying world, and drawn back out as hulls, armor, and support frames. What was a wound became a forge, and that forge became the first stitch in rebuilding a homeworld that refused to stay dead.

Though armed for war, the Trafalgar's true work begins after the guns cool. The class is built to enter shattered places and carry civilians out. Its relief decks hold med bays, psychiatric care, food stores, and quarters enough to receive, treat, and rehabilitate the rescued before they are carried deeper into Super Earth space.

The class first entered wider service as a reward following Operation Angel's Memory, which recovered 5,959 civilians and 1,104 high-value personnel. Though the first hulls were laid down by the 777th, the rights to the Trafalgar's pattern were soon signed over to the Freedom Alliance Navy, so that fleets across the line might commission Trafalgars of their own. Of the ninety hulls completed to date, thirty stand in active service, the remainder held in reserve.

Though built to shelter and sustain rather than to brawl, the Trafalgar is armed like a ship of the line. Eighty-one point-defense cannons screen it against strikecraft and incoming ordnance, while three VX-12 "Foehammer" turreted ultra-heavy railguns and five VX-3 rail cannons grant it notable firepower. Closer in, five 3RF nine-barreled rapid-fire cannons, two ES-36 exploding shrapnel cannons, and two MB-17 missile barrage cannons layer its defense, and for the gravest threats it carries four Planetary-class nuclear missiles. These weapons are not meant to raze worlds, but to guarantee that anything reaching for the lives in its hold will not reach twice.

Angel's Venture lost her ground, but not her purpose. Her wings now hang in orbit, forged from her own heart, carrying her people home until she can stand again.
